XDefiant is finally due for release tomorrow, 21st May 2024. It's been a long time coming, but Ubisoft's free-to-play arena shooter is ready to roll on PS5 at last. We hope you weren't excited to Platinum the game, though, because you literally can't.

Yes, the game has no Platinum Trophy, as revealed by the full list over on PSNProfiles. The game's Trophy list comprises one Gold, three Silver, and nine Bronze trinkets to collect, making for a relatively anaemic Trophy-earning experience.

You're rewarded for reaching player level 50, accruing 10,000 damage, healing or blocking 5,000 damage, and being MVP three times. These types of Trophies are fairly typical of ongoing multiplayer games such as this, but the list is quite slender compared to other titles.

Not that Trophies are the be all and end all, of course, but XDefiant may not be worth it for any serious Trophy hunters out there — especially as it's missing the Platinum top gong.

Anyway, are you interested in playing XDefiant on PS5? Are you bothered about the lack of Trophies at all? Let us know in the comments section below.

have developers not figured out yet that to some people an attainable platinum trophy might get people to play your game and sink some time into it

Wasn't going to play it anyway. DEFINITELY not gonna touch it now. Another one to the live service graveyard.

Games without a platinum trophy make me question the developers' commitment. If they skimped on trophies, what else did they overlook? Will they abandon support or neglect major bugs? It's a red flag for me.

From what I could tell playing its open access… platinum would not have expanded the player base. I am not a FPS god but I’m no slouch and those lobbies (game matches without ranking or skill levels) are like playing CS as your first shooter. Most people are going 1-15 for a few matches and uninstalling. A platinum to win like 100 matches or whatever would only interest the pros.

I like most Ubi games but this one is dead on arrival with its current lobby system.

If I was producing any shooter and I wanted to attract players, I would ensure there were a platinum trophy in my game that took maybe 10 hours to get and relied on mainly trying out all the mechanics, characters, weapons, perks to some extent. Basically give you the platinum for experiencing the game. I figure that would attract players and make the game more fun. What do I know?

I’m in the other camp, free to play games like this shouldn’t even have platinum trophies.

As for how it affects the player base, well, I’m over 500 hours into Fortnite on my PS5 and still don’t have a single trophy, and I’m guessing I’m not alone, so while I suppose it could hurt it it certainly doesn’t seem like there’s a direct correlation.

@trev666 if you are only playing a game for a trophy. Then it’s probably not worth playing.

@zhoont I would do the same. I feel like Helldivers 2 got a pretty good platinum for an online game.

Fine without a platinum on any game free or payed. 13 trophies though is lazy from Ubisoft. Free Stumble Guys has a platinum. A 39p crappy comic book style game with no gameplay that lasts barely 5 or 10 minutes called Good Guys has more than double 13 trophies and a platinum to go with it

@Beerheadgamer82 exactly the trophy system on PlayStation is so broken

@trev666 yh feels that way on occasions. At least we do get Platinums to unlock though unlike Xbox achievements. Wish Nintendo did their own version of achievements/trophies

Nor really a big deal Apex doesn't have a platinum either.

I‘m not playing for my pleasure. I‘m playing for the trophies. 🏆

@Archangel7704
I'm not sure it would have taken you to long to search and see they have already completed the year one content and are working on year 2

Kinda excited tbh. It gaves me the old call of duty feeling, gonna play it tomorrow

Alongside the alpha/beta being absolute garbage, this is another reason not to play.

I’m out.

Maybe ChatGPT has not been trained on games with trophies. So it was unable to produce that kind of system when generating Xdefiant. Or the guys responsible for this game forgot to ask for trophies in the prompt? What do you think?

Speaking of trophies, i still wish there was an option to permanently delete games off your profile you didn’t like but popped an early bronze on. Sure this is just OCD stuff, so i expect not to get much love from this. But i like my profile to be clean and well over 60% on every game i like and want to keep. If i tried out a new game and finished the tutorial and it gives me a bronze trophy it’s on my list forever and i didn’t even play more than a hour or two past the tutorial. If Xbox or PS did this to their systems i would be all over that. I don’t mind giving up a few Bronze trophies to clean up my profile. But i have wanted this feature since the PS3 days and don’t think I’ll ever see it. It’s to much work for them and worry that someone would hack your info and delete your data. Oh and this game has around 5 months to live before COD comes out and destroys its player count.

Seems like a lot of work for no platinum. I don't mind doing a lot for 100%, but make it worth my time!

Guess I'll be deleting it then.

Every major release from big publishers should have platinum trophies. It is insane that this is still happening.

I feel like I'm in a small camp, but I never really cared for trophies or achievements in games, to me, completing the game WAS the achievement, and for multiplayer stuff, the focus was only ever on having fun.

What I miss the most is when you used to be able to unlock extras or new outfits/weapons/stuff by playing through a game or meeting certain requirements...but DLC's in general sorta killed a lot of that stuff off.

I don't think it's that I don't like trophies etc, I think it's more that a ton of games give you trophies for doing the most basic thing that it almost feels insulting sometimes, like getting a trophy for creating a load out in a shooter, or completing a short tutorial. Walk your character forward, well done! have a trophy! Exaggerated obviously but you get what I mean, those types, I will admit there is a sense of satisfaction when you get a trophy that was actually tricky or challenging to get, so I can understand the appeal.

If i can recognise the importance of a good list to many players, you'd think Ubisoft would be able to. Personally, it could have zero trophies for all I care.

Something I’ve learned from Switch is that achievement trophies are never needed to enjoy a game. If a game depends on trophies to motivate someone to play it, it’s a bad game to begin with. If someone depends on the amount and quality of achievement trophies to play a game, they aren’t playing for fun, they play just to show off #sorrynotsorry.

@Archangel7704 the only red flag I’m seeing is your very comment. Play a Switch game and come back to us on how the lack of trophies ruined your experience 🤷🏻‍♂️

Have downloaded ready for later, trophies can be fun and obtaining a platinum is good but it's just something additional on the side when playing. Enjoying the game is always first.

@HonestHick It should be a option if you have like two or three easy trophies to just delete them its so annoying if one pops early with a game you really hate.

@Flaming_Kaiser i 100% agree. Not sure we will ever get this feature but i ask for it all the time. If more people did it might grab their attention, but it’s unlikely.

Might play a few games on a dummy account just to see what the game is like but I don't want that game added to my trophy list unless it gets a platinum. Adding the platinum can excourage me to play more. Looks ugly in my collection to have 100% but no Platinum to go along with my other games
