Robert J. Gober Obituary - 2023 (2024)

Robert J. "Rob" Gober age 74, of Algonquin, Illinois passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2023 surrounded by his beloved family. He showed us all how to live with joy in every day. No one loved life or appreciated life more than Rob. Family first was indeed what he lived, but he also knew how to keep everyone entertained with his jokes and amusing sense of humor. To the end his wit never failed him. He was so well loved and he loved so well.

He was born in Van Nuys, California and grew up in Elgin, Illinois. He graduated from Elgin High School and went on to study liberal arts for two years until he found his trade in bricklaying. He was proud of the many projects he built that would last a lifetime or more. His union BAC local 21 in Chicago would benefit from his labor organizing skills until he retired in 2011.

His love of sculpture, art and history combined for a lust for travel took him around the world. In his retirement he grew that artistic ability into wood carving and enjoyed giving away his many sculptures to friends and family.

He met the love of his life, Cindi, early in life and spent the rest of his life proving just that. His big heart grew even bigger as his family grew. His three children and eight grandchildren knew they were loved fiercely.

He leaves behind his wife, Cynthia Miller Gober; his children, Ginger (Bob) Stanczak, Gretchen (David) Martin and Casey (Jennesa) Gober, along with his grandkids, Kyle, Grace, Ben, Sam, Noah, Luke, Levi and Elena; his siblings, Larry Gober, Trish Gober, Bruce Solso, Brad Solso and Linda Solso; also many beloved nieces and nephews.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Wayne and Joan and his grandson, Isaiah.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 with visitation to begin at 10:00 AM until time of an 11:00 AM Memorial Service at Light of Christ Church, 1700 Longmeadow Pkwy., in Algonquin with Pastor Kendall Koenig officiating.
