  • Homemade Ginger Peach Sweet Iced Tea

A twist on classic iced tea, this ginger peach tea recipe uses fresh peaches and makes its own simple syrup to create the best peach tea to sip on hot summer days.

A refreshing glass of iced tea is perfect for a hot afternoon. This recipe makes a big batch, so you can have a delicious cold drink for the whole family during your next backyard bbq. (Use the buttons in my recipe card to easily double or triple the recipe, depending on what you need.)

I love making this easy recipe in a quart mason jar because mason jars are made to withstand heat. No need to worry about having a heat-resistant pitcher or heat-safe pitcher.

When you're ready to serve, simply pour your delicious ginger peach iced tea into a large pitcher and serve!

Ingredients

Homemade Ginger Peach Iced Tea (Sweetened) (2)
  • Brown sugar - If you don't have or want to use brown sugar, go with maple syrup instead.
  • A peach - The more ripe and juicy the better!
  • A lemon - Fresh lemon juice tastes much better than bottled. Squeeze that lemon!
  • Fresh ginger root - This inexpensive herb pairs so well with peaches! Check out my tips below for how to peel ginger root.

Recipe Tips for Ginger Peach Iced Tea

  • Make sure it’s completely cold before serving. Pouring warm tea over ice will cause the ice to melt too fast and lead to a very watery tea with much less flavor. Be sure your tea has cooled completely and had time to chill in the refrigerator before you serve it.
  • Put ice in the glass, not your pitcher or jar. Adding ice to your picture or to the jar will lead to watery tea when the ice melts. keeps it ice in the glass for the best flavor.
  • Garnish with lemon slices, peach slices, or a sprig of fresh mint
  • Make sure you use ripe peaches. The juice in the peach was going to get this drink its peach flavor so you want to use a very ripe peach.
  • Peel your ginger root before using it. (See below for instructions on peeling ginger root.) The peel has a bitterness to it and you don’t want that in your drink.
  • Use fresh lemon. Nothing is better than fresh citrus. Skip the store-bought juice in favor of squeezing a fresh lemon. You'll need about ¼ of a lemon for this recipe.
  • In a hurry? Substitute homemade peach syrup for the peach and brown sugar mixture.

How to Peel Fresh Ginger Root

The quickest and safest way to peel fresh ginger is with the side of a teaspoon. Holding the ginger root in one hand, drag the side of the teaspoon towards you, scraping along the ginger root. The peel will come off on the spoon.

Discard the peel and repeat the process until you have as much ginger peeled as you need.

You can also peel the entire ginger root at once, slice it up, and freeze it until you’re ready to make more ginger peach iced tea!Just be sure to thaw your frozen ginger slices before you use them in more tea.

FAQs and Substitutions

Can I use frozen peaches?

Yes, frozen peaches were great in this recipe. Just make sure to thaw them completely before you use them.

What can I use instead of brown sugar?

White sugar or maple syrup are delicious substitutes for brown sugar in this recipe.

Can I use ground ginger?

I don't recommend it. Ground ginger will make your iced tea gritty and have a strange texture. If you can’t find fresh ginger root at your local store, leave it out and simply have peach iced tea.

How do I make this decaf iced tea?

Simply use decaf tea to make this a caffeine free recipe.

How do I make this peach iced tea sugar free?

If you want, you can use artificial sweeteners or a sugar substitute like Stevia in place of the brown sugar. Or you could simply leave out the brown sugar and have your tea not be sweetened by anything expect the juicy peaches. It will still be delicious and full of flavor.

What kind of tea should I use?

Choose your favorite black tea - either bagged or loose leaf tea. You can swap the black tea for green tea or white tea if you want, but stay away from flavored peach tea bags or black tea blends that have other flavors. We're getting the peach flavor from fresh fruit, so you'll want to pass on any kind of tea with additional flavors in it, especially if it has artificial flavors.
