John Bapst has an opening for a full-time college counselor for the 2024-2025 school year beginning in August. This is a permanent position. The successful candidate will have a degree and experience in school counseling, college admissions, or related field (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate). Counselors provide personal and academic guidance to 500 local day students and 50 international students. Tasks range from academic and college advising, testing, and scheduling through PowerSchool to leading students through the college application process using Naviance.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who understands the full range of tasks a high school counselor must be able to handle with calm professionalism. Excellent people skills with teenagers, parents, teachers, staff, and administration are essential. Comfort with using technology and confidence with writing and public speaking are important as the counselors write dozens of letters of recommendation annually and preside at college and financial aid information nights for parents and students.
