Luis Diaz stuns training ground onlookers, search for young centre-back signing expands

Liverpool have 12 games left to salvage something from a season that has so far been a largely ordinary one.

A place in the top four is all Jurgen Klopp and his players have left to fight for as the final dozen fixtures come into view but qualification for next season's Champions League is vital to the long-term health of the club both on and off the pitch.

Ahead of a huge few weeks, the ECHO brings you all the latest off-diary Reds news.

Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham limit

Real Madrid are reportedly not willing to spend more than €100m (£88m) for Jude Bellingham as the race for the 19-year-old continues.

Liverpool have prioritised the Borussia Dortmund midfielder as their number one target for the summer but face competition from Los Blancos and Manchester City.

According to AS via Metro, the reigning European champions are vying for the Englishman's signature but there is a condition in place. It has been claimed that they will not exceed £88m or €100m in trying to lure him to Madrid.

The report claims there is expected to be a pricetag of at least £105m (€120m) but other reports claim there is likely to be €30m more on top of that.

The Athletic have recently claimed with Chelsea's acquisition of Enzo Fernandez, Dortmund could demand a hefty price tag for the Three Lions star.

Liverpool 'not' interested in Evan Ndicka

GOAL reporter Neil Jones says he has been told that Liverpool aren't interested in Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and a report from the Daily Mirror suggested that the Reds were monitoring the defender.

However, Jones has revealed he's been told it's a 'firm no'.

"Unfortunately, the conversations I’ve had about this player have been, I wouldn’t say a hard no, but a firm no, he told Redmen TV.

"He obviously looks like he’s going to move somewhere in the summer.

"There’s a lot of clubs also linked in that story.

"When I looked at it, I thought yeah, a young lad from the Bundesliga, played Europa League, played Champions League, France under-21, good size, free transfer, yeah that makes a lot of sense.

"But I have to say that the people I’ve spoken to around Liverpool, around the club, have poured cold water on it and I believe them, to be fair."

Haaland facing a race against time

Erling Haaland is facing a race against time to be fit for Saturday, according to the Daily Star.

The Norwegian talisman was forced to pull out of the squad for their recent international following a groin problem and did not train today ahead of Liverpool's visit this weekend.

It has been claimed that he underwent more treatment and did some lighter work on his own in a bid to be well enough to aid Pep Guardiola's title aspirations.

AC Milan 'offered' Keita

AC Milan have reportedly been offered Naby Keita ahead of his looming exit from Liverpool.

That is according to Calciomercato who have reported that the Italian giants are among the potential suitors for the Guinean.

Since January, the former RB Leipzig midfielder has been able to enter pre-contract negotiations with overseas clubs and it is largely considered that his time will be up at the end of the season.

The Italian outlet claims that directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been given a chance to sign soon-to-be free agents in the summer and the 28-year-old is a "serious possibility".

Plenty of insight from today's session

No sign of Naby Keita, who played for Guinea against Ethiopia on Monday night.

However, Kostas Tsimikas trained despite being forced off with an injury in Greece's Euro qualifier on Monday night.

Ben Doak was involved, too.

Liverpool's dream summer window with £170m midfield plan and FOUR free transfers

With the need to rebuild becoming a glaring one at Anfield, the Reds continue to be linked with a host of midfielders, including primary target Jude Bellingham.

Kostas Tsimikas' involvement at Manchester City in doubt

The Liverpool defender was substituted during the first half of Greece's Euro 2024 qualifier on Monday after suffering a back injury.

With games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal looming for the Reds, Kostas Tsimikas could have been required to deputise for Andy Robertson during the week. However, if his knock proves to be serious, it would place his involvement in doubt.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will provide an update on the defender's condition when he speaks to the media tomorrow afternoon.

Erling Haaland misses Manchester City training

Premier League top goalscorer Erling Haaland was not pictured in Manchester City training on Wednesday afternoon as Pep Guardiola's side ramped up their preparations for this weekend's visit of Liverpool.

Despite initially joining up with his Norweigan team-mates during the recent international break, Haaland made a swift return to Manchester after being diagnosed with a groin problem just days after scoring two goals against Burnley in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The 22-year-old's involvement in Saturday's Premier League clash with the Reds has therefore been plunged into doubt ever since. However, it now appears unlikely with the forward not pictured in Wednesday's session at the City Football Academy, where returning international stars Jack Grealish, Nathan Ake and John Stones were all present.

After assessing Haaland upon his arrival at the Norway camp, national team doctor Ola Sand said: “We hoped that this was just a familiarity that would carry over to Saturday, but after doing tests and examinations yesterday it became clear that he will not make it to the games against Spain and Georgia.

“It is better that he receives medical follow-up at the club.”

Reds still 'hold interest' in World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in Fiorentina midfielder and World Cup breakout star Sofyan Amrabat despite the player eyeing a move to Barcelona.

The Moroccan midfielder, who played an instrumental role as his nation secured a fourth-place finish in Qatar, has been linked with moves to Anfield, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.

Reports in France at the time of the World Cup claimed Jurgen Klopp had met with the player's entourage over talks of a potential move in either January or at the end of the season. However, that appeared to be the extent of the Reds' interest.

But now, according to a new report from Foot Mercato, Liverpool are yet to make a final decision on the midfielder - but the 276year-old has set his sights on the Nou Camp.

Liverpool in 'strongest position' to land Mason Mount

As Mason Mount's Chelsea contract saga shows no signs of overcoming its current impasse, it's Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp who are reportedly most likely to sign the England international.

Mount, 24, has just over twelve months left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge but has been unable to agree on fresh terms with his boyhood club, who he joined at the age of six.

It means that ahead of the summer, the Londoners have a huge decision to make as they weigh up whether to cash in on the 36-cap England midfielder or risk losing him next summer for nothing.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are in the "strongest position" in the Premier League to land Mount and could do so this summer. It is well-known how much major surgery is needed on the Reds' midfield and the signing of Mount would go some way to solving some of the glaring issues that have been on display at Anfield this term.

This week's Anfield agenda

After having a 17-day break to chew off the fat from their defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu, Liverpool make their anticipated return to action this weekend as they visit Manchester City at the Etihad stadium.

Although the fixture will not be the majestic spectacle it has become in recent seasons as both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have wrestled for the Premier League title, both sides do still have plenty to play for between now and the final weekend of the season.

For the Reds, it starts off a mouthwatering run of fixtures that could define their top-four ambitions, with Saturday's trip up the M62 followed by travels to Chelsea and then the visit of Arsenal to Merseyside on Sunday, April 9.

We'll be hearing from the Reds boss ahead of those trips tomorrow afternoon at the AXA Training Centre, where Klopp is expected to provide positive injury updates on both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool have just unlocked the perfect partnership for Trent Alexander-Arnold

The latest round of international fixtures has represented something of a break in tradition from a Liverpool perspective.

The topic of Trent Alexander-Arnold and his inclusion for England under Gareth Southgate has tended to be a regular one for fervent debate in recent times. So much so, in fact, that it's become something akin to Groundhog Day regarding the Three Lions manager's unwillingness to use the Reds' No.66.

Two years ago, headlines were made when Alexander-Arnold was left out of the England set-up entirely by Southgate, while further chatter raged in September of last year when he was omitted of the match-day squad that played Germany, despite being part of the group at the time.

Alexander-Arnold's World Cup amounted to just 33 minutes against Wales in a 3-0 win that was virtually secured before his introduction while he was left out entirely for the recent games with Italy and Ukraine.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia 'close' to agreeing Napoli extension despite tentative Liverpool links

Napoli and Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is reportedly close to penning a fresh deal with the Serie A club despite tentative links with a move to Liverpool.

Kvaratskhelia, who made the move to Naples in the summer after turning out for Dinamo Batumi in the Georgian top flight after being freed from his contract with Rubin Kazan, has been a revelation in Italy this season and alongside Victor Osimhen looks set to fire Gli Azzurri to their first league title since 1990.

His tally of 14 goals and 16 assists across all competitions this season has seen the 22-year-old linked with a move to Liverpool, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, according to Foot Mercato the Georgian winger is set to sign a one-year extension that will keep him in Naples until the summer of 2028. It will ensure that should one of Europe's elite sides make a move for Kvaratskhelia this summer - Napoli will receive a heft transfer fee.

Liverpool could complete first signing of the summer before transfer window even opens

Liverpool transfer news - Kvaratskhelia update, Man City injury news (16)

Liverpool have signed just seven players on free transfers during Jurgen Klopp’s reign at Anfield, but recent reports suggest the Reds could add to that tally this summer.

Jude Bellingham remains their first-choice target, and would cost a club-record fee over £100m if Liverpool were to lure him to Anfield. Meanwhile, plotting a midfield revamp, the England international wouldn’t be the only new arrival in the engine-room, if signed, with the Reds continuing to find themselves linked with Matheus Nunes and Mason Mount.

But now reports suggest Liverpool could make a move for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

The 23-year-old is a pacey left-sided centre-back, who can also cover at left-back or in defensive midfield. A Europa League winner with Eintracht Frankfurt last season, he earned valuable Champions League experience with the Bundesliga outfit during the current campaign as a result.
