Infor (M3) was used in a previous establishment where I was a couple [of] years ago and we used it to manage the needs of manufacturers, distributors, and equipment dealers. The business management of this software implemented was accounting, budgeting, and reporting for both internal and external operations. Now during the time, it was used, we didn't experience any technical situations.

Pros and Cons
  • Its easy to use[.]

  • No need for customization required[.]

  • Vast majority of support[.]

  • Its not easy to customize if you have that need.

Likelihood to Recommend

Since it also allows us to expand the functionality without the Modifications, the necessity to exchange the code is mostly not needed. Despite this, sometimes we are not provided with alternatives. So it is highly appreciated that this option still [exists] though. The M3 Products are mostly very intuitive once you start using them more frequently.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Lawson is used across all of accounting and finance to aid in the closing and consolidation of our books each month. It is also used to book all entries and maintain the general ledger across all company entities. It addresses the problem of rolling forward certain balance sheet and income statement balances.

Pros and Cons
  • Web-based and rarely crashes.

  • Capable of producing a lot of different report styles.

  • Facilitates information sharing across different departments.

  • Not intuitive at all, difficult to learn.

  • System is archaic, seems to be largely unchanged since the early 2000's.

  • Reports are all in PDF form, which for financial reporting purposes is tedious to turn back into Excel sheets.

Likelihood to Recommend

Lawson is utterly terrible for the money. It does not integrate well with other systems such as Treasury Management clients or tax software. It is extremely difficult to generate flexible reports and analysts are constantly spending time turning reports produced from pdfs into spreadsheets and vice versa. Overall, you're better off paying for an Oracle ERP or some other product.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Lawson is used as an ERP for Financial Accounting for a large part of the product verticals (except Manufacturing Plants where MFG PRO is used).

It meets the Financial Accounting requirements of our organization with a lower cost of ownership. The application has been largely customized to suit our requirements. The reporting capabilities are met by taking the data to a separate Data Warehouse and reports are built on top of it with a near real-time feed from ERP.

Pros and Cons
  • Fixed asset accounting.

  • Activity-based accounting.

  • Fiscal ledger and management ledger reporting.

  • Shared cost allocations.

  • Reporting capabilities with mobility options.

  • Flexibility to multiple hierarchical reporting.

Likelihood to Recommend

Lawson, as a Financial Accounting System, meets the expectations with a lower cost of ownership. The license cost, implementation cost, and sustaining efforts are much lower compared with other major players and it can be well suited for small, medium and large companies.

Infor is not substantially investing in upgrading Lawson to meet the next generation reporting needs including automation, mobility, and integration to consolidation.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Lawson for our ERP, supporting HR, GL, PO, and Payroll. Primary users are Accounting and Human Resources.

Pros and Cons
  • Very stable product. Some of its weaknesses are also its strengths. The lack of web services seems to actually increase stability.

  • No software vendor in this space is perfect. Lawson does perform as advertised.

  • Again, a weakness of this (limited functionality) is a hidden strength as well. In software there is a complexity/feature tradeoff. Where Lawson lacks in features, it does give you a more simple setup for your organization.

  • Features. Would love to see better delivery of new regulatory reporting, for example the 1095C for benefits.

  • I haven't seen many advancements in the core product in quite awhile. Would like to see a refreshed look.

  • Like all software vendors, there is a current push to go cloud-based, which I find nauseating. This is not unique to Lawson... but neither are they exempt from it.
