I miss living in Alaska. There’s no other place like it. I have so many great memories of fishing, camping and hiking all over the place. Even though we don’t live thereanymore, I can still enjoy a little taste of Alaska anytime I want. My local grocery store sells fresh and frozen Wild Alaska Seafood year-round at their seafood counter next to the freezer section.

My number one favorite seafood is Alaska King Crab. Just thinking about it makes me hungry and happy. I am reminded of good friends and good food every time I eat crab legs.

It seems like every time we got together with friends in Alaska, we ate seafood. Salmon and halibut were pretty much a guarantee at any party. At the holidays, we would go all out and haveKing Crab, too! I was always one of the first in line for freshly steamed crab legs.

If you don’t have a steamer, use a large lidded stock pot or Dutch oven with a steamer basket or metal colander that fits inside. My rice cooker doubles as a steamer, so I use itforsteamed crab legs.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs King Crab Legs, frozen
  • 4 cups Water
  • Sliced Lemons, for serving
  • Unsalted Butter, melted for dipping

Servings: servings

Instructions

  1. Rinse ice off of frozen crab legs. Use a sharp knife to split crab legs into smaller pieces that fit into the steaming basket.

  2. Fill steamer or large pot with water and bring to a boil. Note: No matter what size pot you are using, it's important to make sure that your steaming basket insert will not be covered by water when you put it into the pot. You want the basket to sit above the boiling water so the crab will get steamed.

  3. Add crab legs and cover with lid. Steam for 8 to 10 minutes or until crab legs are heated through.

  4. Serve with sliced lemons and unsalted butter, melted for dipping.

Personally, I think the best way to eat crab legs is with fresh lemons. I like to squeeze a little bit of lemon juice on my plate to dip the crab meat. Most of my friends (my husband included)love to dip their crab meat in meltedbutter. Another dipping option for crab legs is apple cider vinegar. Give them all a try to see which one you like best.
