The recently confirmed PS5, PS4 remaster of Nintendo Wii exclusive Epic Mickey will release for Sony consoles on 24th September 2024, it's been announced. Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed will cost £49.99 / $59.99, with pre-orders live on the PS Store now.

If you pre-order, you'll gain 24 hours of early access from 23rd September and a costume pack featuring custom outfits for Mickey like Steamboat Willie and Brave Little Tailor. The bundle will also be available separately for $4.99.

"Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed brings the magic of Disney to life in a vibrant 3D platformer. This beautiful remake sends Mickey Mouse on an epic journey through Wasteland, a realm of forgotten Disney characters," the PS Store pre-order page reveals. "As Mickey, you will dive into a fantastical world and, armed with paint and thinner, shape your adventure and the fate of this alternate world."

First released on the Nintendo Wii, it garnered a fairly positive response, with 78 critic reviews concluding in a Metacritic rating of 73. Our sister site Nintendo Life awarded a 7/10 rating at the time and concluded: "Epic Mickey promised a big story set in the Disney universe that offered players a wide range of choices and rewarding game play and for the most part, the game delivered on every one of those promises." Fast forward 14 years and this remake is said to improve the experience across the board.

Epic Mickey PS5, PS4 Remaster Gets a 24th September Release Date (2)

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he can be found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.

One of my favourite games actually. Adding DLC to a remake is a choice though.

I've never played the original and I'm kind of a nerd about Disney, so I'm in.

I always held off on this cause I heard it was somewhat of a technical mess and the camera had issues.

If they clean all that up, this may be the perfect time to give it a shot. Always loved the concept.

Out of interest, did anyone ever own the digitsl version of castle of illusion remake on ps3. My purchase of the game has changed to trial only and now prompts me to buy. I know I had full game as I have the trophies for completing it.
I then started going through my spreadsheet (very sad I know but I need to keep.track) of my ps3 digital library, both ps plus and purchased and I have quite a few games that now show as trial versions only. Again I have not cancelled ps plus, and bought most games, plus I have trophies for completing. Plus I never download trials. I have restored licences but to no avail.

@TheFakulty I had no idea this existed. Is it still available to buy digitally or otherwise?

@TheFakulty If you have bought it on PS3, you should still be able to play it on a PS3 console. To my knowledge, you can't download, purchase, or play PS3 games on a PS4 or PS5 outside of streaming a limited selection of titles with a PS Plus Premium subscription.

@BetaRabbit64 They're saying they can't play it on his PS3.

@TheFakulty I just checked on my PS3 and I still have the full version.

Just restore licences on your PS3 and I'd imagine that will fix it.

I've never played this but I liked castle of illusion as a kid so maybe I'll check this out.

@Arnna yes I have started buying up loads of ps3 games recently building out that library because no chance what I bought will appear on ps plus. However going through I noticed games I owned on the ps3 store now saying I needed to buy. They also have epic mickey 2. That's next on my list

@BetaRabbit64 I am on the ps3, and in the physical ps3 store. It shows other games I have purchased as purchased. But there is a number that now state purchased for the trial version and the main game I need to purchase again. I am currently going through the store and ticking off the 300+ digital games that show in the store as purchased or not purchased, and if they have been delisted I now have to go through the horrendous ps3 download list, that you can't search, filter or sort. Not only that it has the vita library mixed in. But once I have built up my list of issues I will contact sony.

I have the same issue with sonic cd

I am wondering if games get delisted and then reinstated, whether it is a different version and that is causing an issue. Only speculating but it's a pain.

@TheFakulty Yeah you'll be best off just taking it up with Sony because I own Sonic CD as well and I still have the full version of that but I'm in the UK so maybe it is something with the regions or something.

@MrMagic I am uk too. So no idea what's going on. Going to have to do the painful download list first. You forget how archaic that was on ps3 and how much better ps4 and ps5 did it

These things should be €40 max. What is even improved with this version?

Interesting but will wait for the sale on this one
Astro Bot and Lolipop Chainsaw in the month already

@TheFakulty Yeah that download list is slow and painful, when you check the download list check to see if there is a separate download key that changes the game from trial to full game.

If I'm remembering correctly the actual game is separate from the key.

  • TheFakulty

@MrMagic yes and they are never together either. Wish me luck, I think the download list is around 1500 with lots of nonsense to check through

  • MrMagic

@TheFakulty I've just checked my download list because I don't buy many digital games. I prefer physical and the Castle of illusion full game conversation key is 5.9kb and separate from 448mb timed trial also the Sonic CD key is separate as well so I hope that helps and yeah good luck. 👍

Remake or remaster?
This is an expensive remake or remaster, it costs more than the original did at launch. I played a little back in the day.

Day one buy for me.

Also, I’m pretty sure it’s a remake.

I read it once as "Epic Mickey: Refurbished," and now that's all my brain will let me see.

I wanted to like the original but the motion controls and camera were stumbling blocks.

This will likely be a wait for a sale job for me with Astro bot and Star wars outlaws out within such close proximity

@TheFakulty I was going through my PS3 digital games library recently as well, looking for a specific game that I didn’t remember if I owned digitally or physically (I eventually found the disc), as well as adding everything to a collection database for future reference (I used infinitebacklog.net instead of a spreadsheet).

As I was doing this, going down that slow, prone-to-crashing list multiple times before getting to the end of, I discovered that there were games missing past a certain date. After much google-ing, I discovered that there was a better list to go through, straight from the the XMB, not in the store. It’s under Account Management -> Transaction History -> Download List.

I never knew this list existed, so I’m wondering if you didn’t either. It’s still not searchable or sortable, but it contains everything I owned, and the downloads are numbered if you lose your place, and because it doesn’t go through the awful broken PS3 Store, it doesn’t crash either. I don’t know if this will fix your particular problem, or if you already knew about it, but I figured I’d mention it just in case it helps 🙏

@Impossibilium I am not sure which list I have checked, bit will definitely use that one now as my spot check. What I had initially done, was go to store, all games in a to z order and then go through ticking off on the sheet.
So green for those showing full game purchased
Orange as delisted so not in store and therefore check against downloads
Blue where it's now showing trial purchased but main game as required to buy.

Therefore I need to go through orange and blue in my downloads. I think I have used the one you said in the past, when downloading something back to my hard drive, but I may have used the store one when I was doing this exercise to save coming out of the store app and going back in.
Thank you for the tip though, much appreciated

@Impossibilium update, went through the downloads list and there 8 or 9 games that are either not there at all or are only trials. Epic mickey and sonic cd show as normal but when you download they are trial versions with no keys. Dead nation is completely missing in action
