You can update your profile photo, name, email address, and preferences on desktop. Updates you make to your account affect all of your Notion workspaces ⚙️

Profile settings

Change your profile photo

ClickSettings & members at the top of the left sidebar, then selectMy account.
Select your current photo or your initial above Add photo. Choose the file you want to use from your device and clickOpen.

Change your name

ClickSettings & membersat the top of the left sidebar, then selectMy account.
Under Preferred name, enter the name you want to use.

Profile discoverability

You can decide if users with your emailaddresscan see your name and profile picture when they invite you to a new workspace. To do so:

Select Settings & members at the top of the left sidebar, then select My settings.
Under Privacy, find Profile discoverability. Turn this on to make your profile discoverable to people with your email address, or turn it off to hide your profile from people with your email address.

If you turn profile discoverability on, a user will see this when they invite you to a workspace or a page:

Note: If you’re already part of the same workspace as the user inviting you, or once you’ve joined the workspace, they’ll be able to see your profile.

Account security settings

Change your email address

ClickSettings & membersat the top of the left sidebar, then selectMy account.
Under Account security, clickChange email.
Enter your Notion account password if prompted, then select Continue.
Enter your new email address and clickSend verification code. You'll receive an email with a verification code at the new address.
Copy the verification code sent to your new email address, paste it into Notion, and clickChange email.

Tip:If you use a Google account or Apple ID to log into Notion, you can log into Notion directly with Google or Apple. Learn more here →

Set, change, or remove your password

If you want to log into Notion using a permanent password instead of temporary login codes:

ClickSettings & membersat the top of the left sidebar, then selectMy account.
Click Set a password.
Enter a password that meets the security requirements and confirm it.

If you want to change your password, click Change password, then enter your current and new password and click Change password.

If you want to remove your password, click Change password → Remove password. This means you’ll have to log in with temporary codes in the future.

Note:Never share your password with anyone, even Notion support! If someone's claiming to be Notion support and asking for your password, it's not us.

All passwords are encrypted on our servers, so we don't have access to any password data.

Time zone settings

ClickSettings & membersat the top of the left sidebar, then selectMy settings.
UnderDate & time, turn on Set timezone automatically using your location or set your time zone manually.

More settings

To access even more settings, clickSettings & membersat the top of the left sidebar, then selectMy settings.

If you want any links to Notion pages to open in your desktop app, toggle on Open links in desktop app. If you’re on the desktop app, you’ll be redirected to the web app to enable this setting.
If you set up links to open in the desktop app, your browser will open a new tab automatically redirect you to the desktop app every time you click on a link to a Notion page. To have these tabs automatically closed once you’re redirected to the desktop app, toggle on Close redirecting browser tabs.
If you want to use Command Search, which allows you to quickly search in Notion while you’re in another app, turn on Enable Command Search. You can also adjust the Command Search shortcut or turn on Show Notion in Menu Bar so you can get to Notion from the top of your screen.

Log in and out

You can useContinue with Googleor Continue with Apple for a faster login as long as your Notion account email is the same as your Google email or Apple ID.

Continue with Google

When you chooseContinue with Googleto login, you'll be asked for your Google password in a pop-up window. If you have 2-step verification enabled for your Google account, you'll need to authenticate with a second device.

Continue with Apple

When you chooseContinue with Apple to login, you'll be asked for your Apple ID password in a pop-up window. If you have two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID, you'll need to authenticate with a second device.

If you're usingContinue with Applefor the first time, you'll see two options:

Share My Email: Choose this option if you want to linkyour Apple ID with an existing Notion account. If you're creating a new Notion account, we'll use the email associated with your Apple ID as your Notion account email.
Hide My Email: Choose this option if you want to hide your email from Notion. A brand new account will be created with a unique email such as dpdcnf87nu@privaterelay.appleid.com, which will only work with Notion.
- You won't be able to linkContinue with Applewith an existing Notion account if you chooseHide My Email.
- You'll still receive Notion emails forwarded to the email associated with your Apple ID.
To stop using Apple with Notion, or to change your email preferences, go to the Apple ID settings on your device.

Tip:Continue with Appleallows you to use Face ID or Touch ID to log in to Notion!

New login alerts

You may receive an email alert if you log into Notion from a new device. If you recognize the login, you can ignore the email.

If you don't recognize the login, you can select This was not me in the email. This will log out of the device that was used for the new login and direct you to Notion settings, where you can reset your password or enroll in MFA.

The approximate location in the new login alert email is based on the IP address. This is just a best estimate of location and may not reflect the true location of the login.

Log out remotely

For security purposes, you can remotely log out of active sessions in Notion. The current session will remain active, but you'll have to log back into Notion on all other devices and instances.

To log out remotely:

Click onSettings & membersin the sidebar, thenMy account.
Scroll down toLog out of all devicesand clickthe arrow beside it.

FAQs

How can I link my existing Notion account with Continue with Apple?

You can useContinue with Applefor a faster login as long as your Notion account email is the same as your Apple ID.

For example, if your Apple ID isadalovelace@icloud.com, you can useContinue with Appleto login as long as that's the email you see in theMy accountsection ofSettings & Membersin Notion.

When you useContinue with Applefor the first time, you'll see two options:Share My EmailandHide My Email. SelectShare My Email, and you should be logged into your Notion account.

If you selectedHide My Email, you'll need to unlinkContinue with Applefrom your Notion account and start over. To do that, go to the Apple ID section of your device settings, thenPassword & Security.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

Follow the instructions here to reset your Notion password.

I just got an email saying I changed my email address or password, but I didn't!

If you receive an unexpected email notifying you of a change to your password, you should reset your password as soon as possible. Follow these steps:

Navigate to notion.so/loginin your web browser.
Click theContinue with emailbutton.
Enter the email address associated with your Notion account.
Click theForgot password?button, and then theSend Reset Link button.
We'll send a link to your email address. When you click that link, you'll be taken toSettings & Membersin your Notion workspace, and your password will be reset.

I tried changing my email address but got an error message saying: "A user with this email already exists."

If you'd like to change your account email to one that already exists within Notion, you can log into the account that holds the email you want and delete that account to free up that email address.

To delete the account, go toSettings & Membersin the left sidebar, thenMy Account, thenDelete My Account.

Then log into your current account, and go toSettings & Members, thenMy Account, and selectChange email. You should be able to switch to the freed up email address.

What if I accidentally deleted something permanently? Any way to get it back?

We keep backups of our database, which allows us to restore a snapshot of your content in the past 30 days if you need it.
