Making Bread with Kids

It was about day three into my “doing a little extra plan” that I noticed a pattern…we were making bread daily!

In fact, by day six, my 7 year old was independent in putting the ingredients into the bread machine and setting it on the proper settings. I had my own homemade bread department.

And it was a very simple process.

Ingredients

how to make bread step by step

  • Step 1 – Measure your ingredients.
  • Step 2 – Mix ingredients together or mix together the yeast and liquid first, allowing it to rise double in size, and then mixing everything together.
  • Step 3 – Let the dough rise.
  • Step 4 – Knead the dough.
  • Step 5 – Shape the dough.
  • Step 6 – Final rising of the dough also called proofing.
  • Step 7 – Baking the bread.
  • Step 8 – Let bread cool.
  • Step 9 – Slice and eat!

how to make bread in a bread machine

If you want to use a bread machine on automatic settings, select white bread and dump all the ingredients into the bread machine and walk away. If you prefer the loaves of bread that come out of a traditional loaf pan, then try this:

  1. Add both the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients to the bread machine bowl.
  2. Set for manual setting so it takes it through the mixing with a dough hook, first dough rise, mixing, second rise process on its own in a warm place.
  3. When the manual setting is over, I let it rise in place until it doubles in size and then turn it out on a cutting board work surface covered with all purpose flour to knead the dough slightly and smooth into loaves.
  4. Bake in a regular bread pan in a preheated oven at 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes until you have delightfully crusty bread.
  5. Set on a cooling rack until someone eats it all or it cools & store in airtight container if anything is left.
